The Supreme Court Bar Association has written to the Hon'ble Law Minister, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad seeking extension of the vaccination program to the judicial system, judges, members of the staff and lawyers at the earliest.
The SCBA has stated that the judicial system is a sacrosanct limb in the Constitutional scheme and is second to none in rendering service to people.
"Judges, members of the staff and lawyers who work the Judicial system are frontline workers."
While providing a background on the aspects of ill-effects that ensued due to the pandemic, the SCBA has insisted that the legal fraternity be brought within the category of frontline workers so that the vaccination programme can be rolled out to them effectively.
"As respected and senior member of our fraternity, you are well versed with the prevailing situation and would use your good offices to ensure that the vaccination program is extended to the judicial system at the earliest. This would be in the larger interests not only of the litigating public but also in the history of the administration", the SCA said.
Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi rolled out a pan-India drive to vaccinate around 3 crore people by the end of its first phase through video conferencing at 10:30 am on Saturday.
In messages posted after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation, the WHO's South-East Asia office said it was "the largest vaccination drive" and posted photographs of men and women being administered the vaccine at different centres across the country.
The first phase of the vaccination drive targets 300 million priority groups including health care and frontline workers.
