The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to withdraw its controversial 3-Capitals Bill, namely, the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of all Regions Bill, 2020.

Advocate General S. Sriram informed the Andhra Pradesh High Court about the decision of the Government to take back the law on Monday.

The then governor, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, had also signed the AP Capital Region Development Authority (Repeal) Bill, 2020.

It thus proposed to establish three capitals in the state- Visakhaptanam, Amaravati and Kurnool which would serve as Executive, Administration and Judicial Capital respectively.

Reportedly, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has also announced that the state will have only one capital - Amaravati.

On Monday, Senior Advocate Shyam Divan had argued on behalf of petitioner, before the Bench of Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justices M. Satyanarayana Murthy and D. V. S. S. Somayajulu.

Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing for the State Government, had also filed an application seeking recusal of Justices M Satyanarayana Murthy and Somayajulu on the ground that they have lands in the Amaravati region.

To this, the bench had said that they will pass orders on the recusal application along with the main judgment.
