The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking directions for the establishment of an International Task Force of experts for determining as to what extent COVID19's new mutant strain was responsible for deaths in India.
A bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Hima Kohli noted, "These are not matters under our Jurisdiction, We have no jurisdiction over China or for that matter of fact on the United States."
Court noted that it rather focus on managing pandemic in our country than delving into “conspiracy theories” involving other nations.
The petition has been filed seeking direction for the establishment of the International Task Force including members participating from China and other countries for concluding as to what steps are required for the prevention of further outbreak of the COVID19 virus.
The plea filed by Abhinav Bharat Congress and its Trustee Pankaj Phadnis said, "A recent report coauthored by the former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India confirms the existence of a War like situation by suggesting that as many 3.9 million Indians have been killed in the last three months by the second wave of the pandemic."
The plea further stated that these initiatives will help in the long run helping in making decisions over the strategy for the upcoming third wave.
However, the Bench while dismissing the petition said, "you are right, a lot of people are asking for this, but you can pursue your claim before the Government."
