The Supreme Court on Friday directed Delhi High Court to decide over filing FIR against BJP leaders concerning the issue of alleged hate speech inciting Delhi Riots.
A bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice BR Gavai said the court can only request the High Court to decide the matter expeditiously.
Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves submitted the apex court had sent them back to the High Court and it has been 1 year 10 months since then, the High Court first said that they'll take up the matter after the Jamia matter is concluded.
"We are loosing hope, day 1 arguments are not yet started," Gonsalves added.
However, the bench said that the Court understands the concern but can't do anything. "We can only request the High Court to expedite the matter."
The bench noted that, "We request the High Court to decide the writ petition expeditiously, preferably within a period of three months."
The petition in Delhi High Court had sought filing of FIRs against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who allegedly gave hate speech that led to violence killing several and around 400 injured. Leaders involved the matter includes Kapil Mishra, Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma, etc.
