The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has taken a positive decision on the appointment of the first female judge, Justice Ayesha Malik in the Supreme Court of Pakistan amidst the protests by the Pakistan Bar Council.

According to a report of India Today, the Judicial Commission headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad granted the elevation of Justice Ayesha Malik as a Judge of the Supreme Court.

The decision has been taken amid protests by the Pakistan Bar Council which had called for a strike on January 6, 2022, throughout the country as a mark of protest against the elevation of the woman Judge from the Lahore High Court.

The Bar Council had alleged that the elevation is in violation of the seniority principle and Al-Jehad Trust Case.

As per the report, the recommendation of the commission will now be considered by the parliamentary committee.

It is also being said that Justice Malik will also become the senior-most judge of Pakistan in January 2030 and may serve as the Chief Justice of Pakistan if the appointment is upheld by the parliamentary committee.
