The Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice N.V.Ramana, today asked the lawyer representing Mohmmad Abu Salem and Mohammad Mehndi Hassan to come prepared for the case.
The lawyer was appearing in a petitions for Salem’s bail, who has been convicted for life for his involvement in the Mumbai serial bomb blast case on 12.03.1993 that killed 257 people. Hassan was his driver and aide.
The petition was listed before a bench of CJI and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Koli.
When the matter was called, the lawyer appearing for Salem started presenting his case albeit in an incoherent manner. The CJI then asked him to come to the point, however when the lawyer could not do so, he sought for an adjournment.
The CJI then told the lawyer to prepare for the case before presenting it and not to look for papers when the matter is called out, he then proceeded to adjourn the matter.
It is to be noted that the CJI attended the court from his home today as he was unwell, Justices Kant and Kohli however sat in the court room of Supreme Court of India.
