Supreme Court directs UP and Haryana Government to handover minor girl death case to CBI

The Supreme Court has recently directed the Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Government's to handover the death case of a minor girl to Central Bureau of Investigation. The Girl was allegedly found hanging at her boarding school in a classroom in Uttar Pradesh.

A bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice CT Ravikumar noted that "We have taken the cognizance of the complaint made by the petitioner who happens to be mother of the deceased and who has lost her minor daughter of 14 years old at that point of time when the closure report has been submitted by the Investigating Officer.

The Court was hearing a plea filed by minor girl's mother challenging the Punjab & Haryana High Court's order dismissing her plea seeking a probe by CBI in the matter. It is the contention of the mother that her daughter's body was found hanging in her school, however, it has been further alleged that the girl was raped and killed. 

The plea has stated that the mother was called to the school, whereas, upon entering the school their phones were snatched and then the dead body was shown hanging in a classroom. Whereas, the Police in its closure report declared the incident as a suicide. 

The bench while assigning CBI to conduct investigation in the matter, stated that "Before we proceed with the matter any further, let papers/ documents regarding investigation be handed over to the respondent no.4 by the State of Uttar Pradesh and State of Haryana in reference to the FIR Nos.332/2020 (annexure P1) and 635/2020 (annexure P2) within four weeks and respondent no.4 is permitted to further investigate into the allegations made by the petitioner within further period of four weeks."
