Allahabad High Court Directs Regulations Of Golf Carts Around Taj Mahal

The Allahabad High Court today directed the District Magistrate, Agra to ensure movement of permitted Golf Carts only within the restricted zones around the monument Taj Mahal.

The division bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by the petitioners.

The petitioners expressed concerns over the increasing pollution from golf carts. Therefore, they had demanded a ban on over use of these Carts in and around Taj Mahal.

They also informed the court that there are a number of unregistered golf carts in a radius of five hundred metres around the Taj Mahal and due to their irregular operation, not only pollution is increasing in the area, but traffic problems are also arising.

In this background, the Court observed

“It is brought to our notice that Agra Development Authority, Agra by several communications has communicated to the District Magistrate, Agra to take appropriate steps for regulating movement of Golf Carts but is of no consequence. Having considered facts of the case, we deem it appropriate to have a short counter affidavit to the writ petition on behalf of respondent nos. 2 and 3 on or before next date of listing. Let this petition for writ be listed on 22nd February, 2021. In the meanwhile, District Magistrate, Agra shall ensure movement of permitted Golf Carts within the restricted zones around the monument "Taj Mahal".
