Lawbeat has learnt that the Supreme Court collegium has cleared nine names for appointments to the top court:
1) Justice Hima Kohli 2) Justice B V Nagarathna 3) Justice Bela Trivedi 4) Sr Adv PS Narsimha 5) Justice AS Oka 6) Justice Vikram Nath 7) Justice J K Maheshwari 8) Justice CT Ravindrakumar 9) Justice MM Sunderesh
This means that the Top Court may get its first woman Chief Justice in 2027. Justice Hima Kohli is the CJ of Telangana High Court and was earlier a judge at the Delhi High Court.
Justice NV Nagarathna is presently a judge with the Karnataka High Court while Justice Bela Trivedi is a judge at the Gujarat High Court.
Justice Vikram Nath is presently the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court and is a former Judge in Allahabad High Court.
Justice Maheshwari is Chief Justice of the Sikkim HC.
Justice C T Ravikumar is a judge at the Kerala High Court while Justice M M Sundaresh is at the Madras High Court.
Former Additional Solicitor General of India P S Narasimha is the Collegium's pick from the bar for the top court's elevation.
