CJ Rajesh Bindal asks Bar members to gird up their loins to tackle pendency of old cases with joint efforts: Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench

Today addressing the 'Full Court Welcome reference' ceremony organized at Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court in his honor, Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice Rajesh Bindal highlighted the issue of pendency of old cases at the high court.

Stressing the seriousness of the issue, Chief Justice Bindal remarked that the pendency of old cases at Allahabad High Court which goes as old as 1974 before the Lucknow bench is a call of concern for all.

Importantly, he mentioned, "We’ve been getting a lot of comments from the Supreme court also on that especially the area of criminal appeals."

This remark by the Chief Justice has come in the backdrop of the Supreme Court's last month's order directing the registration of a suo motu case on the issue of long pendency of criminal appeals in the Allahabad High Court.

Therefore, calling for the coordination of the Awadh Bar members, Chief Justice said, "We all know that the Bar and the Bench have to work together, they are two wheels of the same chariot..... We will work together, and we will be able to serve the litigants in society."

Also noting the advere effects of the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, Chief Justice Bindal said,

"You all know that we’ve suffered for the last two years from the Covid19 pandemic, the court functions have not been isolated from the same." But he underscored,

"Cases have been piled up but gradually we are taking up those cases and trying to streamline the system but the support of the Bar members is also very important."

Further, pointing out that it was the first day of the great festival of Chhath Puja, which is dedicated to Lord Surya, Chief Justice Bindal asked everyone present to take the energy from lord and dedicate themselves to discharge their duties. 

Concluding his speech, Chief Justice sought Bar members' support stating that with Bar's great assistance the High Court will be able to get a good name and reputation regarding the early disposal of pending cases.

Furthermore, expressing his desire that the High Court would be having a positive note before the Supreme Court as well in the near future, Chief Justice Bindal rose from the bench which he presided over along with Justice Ramesh Sinha, Senior Judge, Lucknow Bench. 

The ceremony was also attended by the other Judges of this Bench of the High Court, Mr. Rakesh Chaudhary (President, Awash Bar Association) , Mr. Raghvendra Singh (Advocate General , Uttar Pradesh), Mr. SP Pandey (Assistance Solicitor General of India) and senior advocates.
