Delhi High Court on Thursday passed a order directing the Government of NCT Delhi to take a decision as to the implementation of the statements made by Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal on 29^th March, 2020.

The Delhi Chief Minister made several promises in his press conference regarding landlords, tenants of Delhi on the said date. He promised that the Government would pay rents on behalf of the poor tenants if any tenant is unable doing so.

A Single Bench comprising Justice Pratibha M. Singh further held,

“This court is of the opinion that the promise/ assurance/ representation given by the CM clearly amounts to an enforceable promise, the implementation of which ought to be considered bg the Government. Good governance requires that promises made to citizens, by those who govern, are not broken, without valid and justifiable reasons.”

Ruling the same, the court ordered the Delhi Government to take steps to frame a policy to carry out the assurance given by the Chief Minister.

The court further ordered that the decision as to the implementation of the same would be taken within a period of six weeks.

The court further added that the framing of the policy would be done in the larger interest of the public focusing the persons to whom the benefits were intended to be extended in the said Statements of the Chief Minister.
