Following the dramatic turnout of events, finally Awadh Bar Association members are back to polling booths and casting their votes ‘peacefully’ from which they have been kept away of for more than a month.
The annual general elections of Awadh Bar Association (ABA) were canceled on August 14 as ruckus took place during polling inside the premises of the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench.
It was alleged that on August 14, candidates along with their supporters, entered into voting arena and indulged in tearing ballot papers, pushing female lawyer and misbehaving with them. High Court took suo moto cognizance of the issue and rescheduled the elections for September 25 with stricter guidelines.
On Friday, September 24, letting bygones be bygones, Bar members seemed quite ardent for the polling on Saturday. Without Court’s regular activities being unaffected, the elections campaign drives were on full swing.
One would be greeted with folded hands from the entry point of the main court arena to the doors of the courtrooms. Candidates with their supporters, having polite and humble corner to corner smiles on their faces, were approaching each lawyer and requested for the support.
No sour memories of the past events could be sensed floating in the air and the atmosphere of the court corridors seemed calm yet full of enthusiasm.
However, the cautious preparedness of the court administration this time could not be left unnoticed as besides the regular security measures, additional commando uniforms could be easily seen guarding the corridors.
Another new addition to precautionary safety measures was the installation of a large screen at the entry point to the court corridors, near the polling area which live streams the polling booth area.
This new addition seemed to send a sense of assurance among the lawyers as many were happy with the installation of the live streaming screen, especially the female lawyers. Also, as per High court’s guidelines the polling is also more disciplined this time.
Polling for ABA Elections 2021 on Saturday will take place from 10 am to 5 pm and counting will be done on Sunday, September 26. By Sunday evening the Bar will have the names of successful candidates.
