Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Mumbai zonal officer Sameer Wankhede arrived before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) in New Delhi on Monday to submit his caste documents proving that he is a member of the Dalit community.

Wankhede was leading the investigation into a drugs case that last month had led to the arrest of Aryan Khan, actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son.

Defendind the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Wankhede, National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) Vice-Chairman Arun Haldar has stated that although the officer is doing good work and making his department proud, a minister has launched a personal attack on him and his family members.

Halder also called upon the government to investigate why certain ministers are after Sameer Wankhede. According to Times of India, Haldar had remarked that “I feel that he belongs to the SC community and hails from Mahar caste and rose to such a position despite belonging to a poor family,” but was quick to add that he will wait for a report from the state government.

Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik on Monday said he will approach President Ram Nath Kovind against the “clean chit” to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official by the vice chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC).

Malik, has made a series of allegations against Wankhede, claiming that the officer is a Muslim but made a fake scheduled caste (SC) certificate through forgery to get into the Indian Revenue Service under the reserved category.
