The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted further time to Samajwadi Party leader Mohd. Azam Khan's counsel to file counter affidavits on Uttar Pradesh Government's bail cancellation applications opposing bail granted to Khan in multiple cases.

The bench of Justice Rajiv Gupta passed the order stressing that only 'two weeks and no more' time has been given to Khan's counsel for filing the counter-affidavit. The matter has been posted on April 18 for further hearing.

The state government had filed an application seeking cancellation of bail granted to Khan in multiple cases. Khan is facing around 87 criminal cases, though he has secured bail in most of them while some are pending in court.

On February 21, the same bench had granted three weeks' time to Khan's counsel Senior Advocate Nazrul Islam Jafri and Advocate Nasira Adil.

Along with his son and wife in February 2020, Khan was arrested in connection with cases against him which include land grabbing, encroachment, and providing fake birth certificates. However, since he hasn't been granted bail in the Jauhar University case, Khan is still in prison.

Notably, in the recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, Khan emerged victorious on March 10 from the Rampur Assembly seat in State's Rampur district.
