The Karnataka High Court recently restrained Netflix from streaming of the first episode titled, "A Murdered Mother", which is a part of the web series, Crime Stories: India Detectives.

The Court was hearing a petition moved by Sridhar Rao, a co-accused in the case of murder of 54-year-old Nirmala Chandrashekar, who was allegedly murdered by her daughter, Amrutha Chandrashekar.

Justice BM Shyam Prasad said,

“The Episode No.1 of the series "Crime Stories. India Detective" and titled "A Murdered Mother" is on the Over the Top (OTT) platform and is available for viewing to all the registered users. The content being available for viewing the petitioner would be put to harassment and prejudice. In consideration of these submissions, the respondents, subject to further orders, are called upon to block streaming, broadcasting, telecasting or otherwise making available the content of the Episode No.1 of the Series 1 of the documentary "Crime Stories. India Detective" titled "A Murdered Mother" on Netflix."

While restraining Netflix, the Court also issued notice to Netflix and Minnow Films.

The petition informs that the respondent No.2, Minnow Films has produced a series titled "Crime Stories: India Detectives" which is available as a content on Netflix.

The petition further informs that the first episode in this series is titled "A Murdered Mother" and contains the visuals of the investigation by the Police in the FIR against himself and Amrutha.

The contents of the first episode would interfere with the petitioner's defence as it contains interview recorded during the investigation and video recording of a purported confession.

Further, it violates the petitioner's privacy, and the content also exposes the petitioner to harassment by the public at large, added the plea.

The matter will be next heard on October 21.
