The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Pamela Goswami, the youth wing leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who was arrested by the Kolkata Police for alleged possession of cocaine.

Justice Joymalya Bagchi has granted bail to Goswami after almost 9 months of incarceration. Pamela's partner Somnath Chatterjee has also been granted bail in the matter. Drugs were recovered from Goswami's car before the assembly polls. Police initially arrested Pamela and Somnath, and later, BJP leader Rakesh Singh from Burdwan area.

Goswami was arrested ahead of the Assembly polls, on February 19, from the New Alipore area of Kolkata with six grams of cocaine. Pamela's partner Somnath was also arrested at the same time. BJP leader Rakesh Singh's name came up in the matter during the police interrogation. Police arrested him from Gholsi in Burdwan.

Police sources claimed that Rakesh was planning to hide in another state.

Pamela Goswami's lawyer had moved the Calcutta High Court demanding interim bail after Rakesh Singh,= was granted interim and conditional bail by the same Court.

Earlier in Court, Pamela Goswami had alleged that she was "framed" as part of a "conspiracy". She accused Rakesh Singh of "sending his men to plant" the pouches of cocaine recovered from her vehicle by Kolkata Police.
