Following the shootout at Delhi’s Rohini Court Complex, the Advocates Association, Bangalore (AAB) has addressed a representation to the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to increase the security for all the Courts in the State.

The representation also seeks for an ordinance for the protection of Advocates.

Last week, the incident took place inside Courtroom number 207, where Gogi, an undertrial, was produced Friday morning and two men waited in the guise of lawyers. They were stated to have shot and killed him whereas Delhi Police killed the two assailants in retaliation.

AAB says that the shootout incident in Rohini Court complex is an attack on the Judiciary and that the same creates fear psychosis among the people approaching the Court of law.

This apart, the incident has affected the trust that people have in the Judiciary, the letter further stated.

Therefore, in this regard, the letter seeks for better security in Courts as well as to enact the ordinance for protection of the lawyer community.

"Ghastly shootout incident of Rohini Court dated 24.09.2021 is an evidence of freelance activities of anti social elements in Judiciary/Court. The gunshot at Court complex is a very unfortunate and serious issue, only the Courts can handle with such ill forces with stern hand. In this backdrop, we once again request Honourable Chief Minister to bring an ordinance to enact Advocates Protection Act at the earliest and give Advocates security to all the Courts across the State."
